Perez Hilton

Perez Hilton is a well-known American blogger who writes a lot about celebrities. He is also known as a television personality. His real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr, and ‘Perez Hilton’ came from the well-known socialite Paris Hilton.

He was born in Florida but now lives in LA, California. Perez Hilton says he initially started blogging because ‘it seemed easy’. Before that, he tried to be an actor and worked in a range of jobs, including as a media relations assistant and a freelance writer for gay publications.

On his blog, he often writes about celebrity awards shows and events. If you look on the ‘Personally Perez’ section of his blog, you will find lots of photos of him with the celebrities who often feature as stories on his blog.

Some people have accused him of having biased coverage on his blog and he is known for having something of a ‘vendetta’ against certain celebrities, while being much more positive of others, notably Paris Hilton, which stands in contrast to some other gossip blogs.

The Perez Hilton blog was originally called PageSixSixSix.com. Notably, within six months of starting the blog, it was named ‘Hollywood’s most hated website’ by The Insider. In 2009, it was revealed that Perez Hilton’s blog was the 143rd busiest website in the United States.

Hilton, who is openly gay, has also caused some controversy for his method of ‘outing’ celebrities on his blog, although he has said: ‘If you know something to be a fact, why not report it? Why is that still taboo?’

He has also published a children’s book called ‘The Boy with the Pink Hair’, which he has admitted was inspired by his own childhood. He has made numerous appearances on television shows, including – to name just a few – Privileged, My Super Sweet 16, When I was 17, America’s Next Top Model, Victorious and Perez Hilton Superfan.
